Arlington, VA – Tom Cox, CCCS, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Education, and Government Services at Financial Asset Management Systems, Inc. (FAMS), rendered a well-received presentation at the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City in January 23-27, 2011. The main event was the Coalition of Higher Education Assistance Organizations (COHEAO) Annual Conference. Mr. Cox shared the stage with Tim Fitzgibbon, Vice President of Debt Management at the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP). FAMS, through Mr. Cox, is also affiliated with NCHELP.

The two speakers were co-presenters of an overview of Title X of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Financial Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The eponymous federal statute of Representative Barney Frank and Chairman Chris Dodd of the Senate Banking Committee, to which Financial Asset Management Systems, Inc. pledged its support, was touted by US President Barack Obama himself as a “sweeping overhaul of the United States financial regulatory system, a transformation on a scale not seen since the reforms that followed the Great Depression.”

The Title X of the legislation focused on Consumer Financial Protection, necessitating the establishment of a bureau that would regulate consumer financial products and services in compliance with federal law. The entire bill can be viewed here.

This was not the first time the tandem was featured in the same presentation. Given their previous knowledge of the bill, they provided a session that was very engaging and that elicited positive response from the attendees from the colleges and university members of COHEAU.
